“Tangerine! lets you easily create playlists of upbeat music, or playlists for relaxing. It works by analyzing the BPM and the beat intensity of your music. Spend your time listening to music, not making playlists.” - Potion Factory website
Tangerine! is a pretty sweet piece of software that analyses your iTunes music (BPM and beat intensity) and lets you create playlists accordingly. This is great if you like to mix up your workout playlist often, or if you just want a random playlist of chill music to relax to.
I haven’t used it enough yet, but what I find pretty nice about it is that it forces me to listen to more of my music. With a huge music library, a lot of times I get trapped listening to the same music over and over again: Cat Power, Dirty Three, Tegan & Sara, Neutral Milk Hotel, Boards of Canada, Rachel’s, Broken Social Scene, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, etc. And although I love these guys (obviously), it is nice to branch out every once in a while. With Tangerine!, occasionally I’ll find another song that I absolutely love that I didn’t even know I had, and I’ll immediately move it to my perfection playlist.
So, not only does it make sweet playlists, but it also has a way of broadening those music horizons. Plus, it integrated nicely with iTunes and has a very nice looking interface.
It costs $24.95 (not a bad price if you’re a playlist freak), but you can get a fifteen day free trial to check it out, if you like. Just download from the Potion Factory website.
